Introduction

Alison is a proud Dja Dja Wurrung, Gunditjmara, and Yorta Yorta woman, an Elder and leader, and a Stolen Generations survivor. She serves as the First Nations Officer at Women’s Health Grampians, where she advocates for culturally safe systems and justice for survivors. She is also a member of the Pitcha Makin’ Fellas art collective, alongside her son and Dja Dja Wurrung–Gunditjmara Yorta Yorta man Jack Shilvock, and Gunditjmara man Uncle Ted Laxton. Their work is held in collections including the National Gallery of Victoria and the United Nations in Geneva. She co-created Why Don’t Whitefellas Like Trees? to highlight the protection of cultural heritage and Country.

She continues her studies through a Master’s degree at Federation University, weaving together her family history and the Stolen Generations. She has also served as a cultural advisor for Monash University and other institutions.
