Two authors discuss writing historical fiction. Kelly Gardiner reads from her most recent novel; Ilka Tampke reads from her new book and talks about early Celtic history and the importance of our connection to place.

Kelly Gardiner writes historical fiction and fantasy for readers of all ages. Her new series is the time-slip trilogy, The Firewatcher Chronicles, which begins with Brimstone. Kelly teaches creative writing at La Trobe University.

Ilka Tampke lives in Woodend, Victoria. Her latest novel, Songwoman, can be read as a stand-alone or as the sequel to Ilka’s first novel, Skin. International rights to Skin have been sold in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, the US, the UK and Vietnam. Skin was shortlisted for the Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Novel in 2015 and longlisted for the Voss Literary Prize in 2016.
