August 25 @ 12:45 pm - 2:00 pm
- This event has passed.
A future where the rains never came. A child with a halo born of atheist parents. Science fiction, fantasy and dark humour meet in this fascinating session hosted by first-time novelists Lachlan Walters (The Rain Never Came) and Jeremy Stanford (Rapture). Join them as they discuss how to tell compelling stories after the end of the world as we know it.
Lachlan Walter is a writer and critic whose debut novel The Rain Never Came has recently been released. He writes science fiction criticism for Aurealis magazine and reviews for the ‘weird music’ website Cyclic Defrost, his short fiction can be found floating around online, and he has completed a PhD on the relationship between Australian post-apocalyptic fiction and national identity. He loves all things music-related, the Australian environment, overlooked genres, and playing in the garden. For more information, head to: www.lachlanwalter.com
Jeremy Stanford has had long and varied career as a performer, kicking off with his portrayal of Buddy in The Buddy Holly Story. He went on to play many lead roles in other plays, TV shows, and musicals most notably as Tick in the original Australian cast of ‘Priscilla Queen of the Desert’ the Musical. This inspired his first book, Year of the Queen about his rocky journey through the creation of the show. Jeremy then retrained as a filmmaker at The VCA School of Film and Television and set up his own media company for which he developed content for TV and Film. In 2013, he directed and co-wrote his first feature film, The Sunset Six. Since then he’s split his time as a writer, actor, and director. Rapture is his first novel.
