There will be cellos! Join us for a magical mid morning reading and cello playing.
Carmel will read short extracts from her recent novel, Field of Poppies and from her memoir Telltale.
Between extracts, cellists Danny Silver and Gudrun Markowsky will play.
Telltale looks back on a lifetime of books and explores the way literature influences a life.
Carmel Bird grew up in Tasmania and now lives in Castlemaine. She has published almost forty
books including novels, short story collections, essays, anthologies, and manuals for writers. She is
a popular teacher of writing, both here and overseas, and she is a regular book reviewer. Her books
have been translated into several languages.
In 2016 she received the Patrick White Award, and in 2022 she was honoured with a PhD from
the University of Tasmania for her contribution to Literature. Her anthology The Stolen Children – Their
Stories in 1998 was a landmark publication in the history of the First Peoples of this country.
Her most recent novel, Field of Poppies is a satire set in the present day in the area of the Victorian goldfields.
Her latest book is a memoir titled Telltale, written during lockdown.
